Taking Grief Onto the Path

13 – 16 May 2025

with Venerable Sherab Khandro

The death of a loved one is among the most challenging life experiences we will ever face. How can we bear the unbearable? How can we integrate loss and grief into our lives and spiritual practice?

Before becoming a nun, Venerable Sherab Khandro experienced one profound loss after another when her husband, mother, father, and two dogs all died in a matter of months. She had been a serious Buddhist practitioner for 18 years when this occurred, but these devasting losses crippled her. One dear teacher said, “Now you are on the practice path of grief.” Another said, “Don’t let this be just suffering.”

She took their words to heart, and found her way through the wilderness of grief with patience, self-kindness and Buddhist practices that revealed the luminosity at the center of her suffering.

In this 4 day retreat, Venerable Sherab Khandro will show us how to hold grief with love and kindness. She’ll share gentle, supportive practices which help us integrate our grief, befriend it, and transform it into an expression of expansive love and healing. Most important, we’ll learn acceptance and, in the words of Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, ‘how to be ok with not being ok.’ “
