The construction of Thosamling Temple was sponsored entirely by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

Thosamling Temple is different in style to most Tibetan temples. It is light and spacious, and the frescos of the twenty-one Taras and the female deity of wisdom, Prajnaparamita, make this a very special place. Green Tara holds a particularly special place here, her presence strong and vivid.

Outside at the entrance are the five sisters of long life (Tashi Tsering Che Nga), known to reside in a five-peaked snowy mountain on the border of Tibet and Nepal. The sisters challenged Jetsun Milarepa during his retreats. Inspired by the great yogi's practice and realization, they pledged to protect the Dharma.

All frescos were painted by hand by Filipino thangka painter Jo Leon, (Karma Yeshe). She finished her thangka painting education in Shechen Art School in Kathmandu. [Photo of Karma Yeshe here]
