Shamatha meditation weekends at Thosamling

Shamatha (mindfulness) meditation – is the practice of cultivating a focused, clear and calm mind, Mindfulness practice is essential for those who wish to subdue and heal our unruly, agitated mind.

Join us at Thosamling for a 3 day shamatha-mindfulness weekend course

The courses take place every 2nd and 4th weekend of the month (Thursday – Sunday)

During the weekend shamatha course participants will be introduced to the qualities that should be developed by the practice, the tools to be used and the obstacles that need to be overcome.

Through guided meditation we will explore and experience the different techniques of Shamatha meditation which include:
• Mindfulness of breathing
• Settling the mind in it’s natural state
• Awareness of awareness

With guidance and practice we will learn to combine shamatha meditation in our daily life to become a tool for everyday practice in the modern world.

The shamatha weekend courses are guided in English by nuns of the Tibetan tradition.
No prior knowledge/ experience of meditation is needed – the course is suitable to all, whether you are an experienced meditator, or completely new to the practice.

Please read the following explanation about the Retreat Environment and Conduct in a Nunnery before signing up to the course.

The course will be held in silence (out side the guided sessions in the meditation hall)
Silence will start at 20:30 of the first evening and continue during the weekend, till lunch of the last day.
